Specialty Builds
Tiered seating, sound isolation and concealed AV, built in rather than furnished.
In a Calgary winter, the home theatre is the room that gets used most, and a real one is built, not furnished. Room proportions, sound isolation, tiered seating, lighting and the AV plan all have to be designed together for picture and sound to match the finishes.
Kay2 builds theatres into lower levels, additions and new homes, working with your AV integrator so wiring, equipment closets and speaker locations are in place before the drywall goes up.
Local expertise
Calgary's long winters make the home theatre one of the most-used rooms in the house. Most are built in the basement, where it's naturally easier to control light and sound.
Kay2 plans Calgary home theatres with sound isolation, ventilation and concealed wiring designed into the walls and ceiling from the start, and coordinates with your AV integrator so the room performs as well as it looks.
Proof, not promises
Kay2 has built theatre rooms into award-winning basements. The Mayland Heights lower level, named Canada's Best Basement Renovation, pairs a theatre room with a wine room, wet bar and indoor pool. A recent Google reviewer describes another Kay2 basement with a custom theatre, wine cellar and wet bar.

Planning home theatres in Calgary?
Start with a free consultation at your home.

We walk through the house with you and talk about how you want to live in it, what has to be included and what you would like to change. The first visit is free.

An estimator turns your wish list into a written scope and a budget, explains where the money goes and talks through financing if you need it.

Our designers draw the plans, and you choose your cabinets, stone, tile and lighting with them at the Showroom. Permits and material orders are lined up before any work starts.

The crew builds to the drawings on a site that is protected and cleaned regularly. A project manager and a project coordinator stay with you, and if we find a surprise behind a wall, we show you and get a change order signed before we do the work.

At the end we walk through the house with you, finish the inspections and only sign off when you are happy with it. Your 5-year limited warranty starts from there.
Every Kay2 project is priced to its scope. After design you receive a detailed, fixed-price proposal.
Your schedule is set before construction begins, including permits and material lead times, and your project manager and coordinator keep you up to date throughout.
Kay2 work comes with a 5-year limited warranty. Kay2 is bonded and carries $5 million in liability insurance, and under Alberta's prepaid contractor rules you can cancel within 10 days of receiving your copy of the signed contract.

Your first step
Yes. The basement of Kay2's Mayland Heights renovation includes a theatre room alongside an indoor pool, a wine room and a wet bar. The project won Canada's Best Basement Renovation at the 2019 CHBA National Awards.
Yes. Most home theatres Kay2 plans in Calgary are on the lower level, where light and sound are easiest to control. We handle the design, sound isolation, construction and permits.
A dedicated theatre is designed for sound isolation, acoustic treatment, controlled light and optimal sightlines, usually with tiered seating. A media room is a multi-use space with a large screen.
We build sound isolation into the wall, ceiling and door assemblies, which is far more effective than adding panels afterwards. It's planned during design.
We build the room and pre-wire it, and coordinate with your AV integrator, who supplies and calibrates the equipment.
