Chestermere Lake Pool & Spa Addition

The owners wanted to expand and update their lakeside retreat into a place where luxury meets everyday function and entertaining comes naturally. Their wish list: an indoor pool and spa, a larger bedroom, an expanded ensuite and an indulgent walk-in closet, all designed for time with family and friends.

The centrepiece is a 1,000 sq ft lower-level addition holding the indoor pool and spa. Building it beside Chestermere Lake meant working with a high water table, so the design included additional foundation support and drainage to prevent soil heaving and protect the structure, along with the waterproofing and ventilation an indoor pool needs to last.

Above, a second-storey addition runs the length of the main floor into the existing vaulted area to expand the primary suite. It made room for a larger bedroom, a massive custom walk-in closet and an expanded ensuite with separate vanities, a make-up station, a standalone tub and a custom shower.

The lake side of the home was designed around the view. A folding wall of windows spans the main living area, flooding it with light and opening it to Chestermere Lake, and windows and doors were placed to frame the water and make the outdoor spaces easy to reach. Electrical and gas services were upgraded to support the pool, spa and new systems, with an emphasis on technology integration and energy efficiency.

At the 2022 BILD Calgary Region Awards the project, entered as “Luxurious Lakeside Living”, won Best Home Renovation with Addition, its kitchen won Best Kitchen Renovation over $125,000, and Kay2 was named Renovator of the Year for the second time.
